The Silent Epidemic of Exhaustion: How One-on-One Meditation Coaching Can Rebuild a Broken Mind
By Cheryl McBride Bailey (Grit and Grace Meditation)
You are reading this because something in your life is not working.
Maybe you wake up at 3:00 AM every night with your heart racing. Maybe you have cried in your car before walking into your own home. Maybe you have achieved everything society told you to want – the promotion, the relationship, the house – and still feel completely empty.
This is not weakness. This is not failure. This is what happens when a human being runs on adrenaline and anxiety for too many years without stopping.
My name is Cheryl McBride Bailey. I spent two decades of my life trapped in that exact cycle. I was the type-A perfectionist who believed that if I controlled every detail of my career and personal life, I would eventually feel safe. Instead, life taught me the hardest lesson I have ever learned: control is an illusion.
My first marriage ended in divorce. My second husband died from colon cancer. Hurricane Sandy took my home and left me homeless. Three catastrophic losses in one lifetime. And through all of it, I kept telling myself to try harder, to be stronger, to fix everything.
That nearly destroyed me.
Today, I offer something different. Not motivational speeches. Not toxic positivity. Not seven-step formulas for happiness. I offer one-on-one meditation coaching – a private, personalized practice designed for people who have tried everything else and are still suffering.
What One-on-One Coaching Is Not
Before I explain what this service actually provides, let me be clear about what it is not.
It is not therapy. I am not a licensed psychologist. I do not diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe medication. If you are in crisis, please call a professional immediately.
It is not a quick fix. No serious emotional work happens in sixty minutes. This is a process, not a pill.
It is not a group class. You will not sit in a circle with strangers or share your trauma publicly. This is just you and me, in a private virtual room (or in person if you can reach Sedona, Arizona).
And it is absolutely not about becoming a different person. You do not need to transform. You need to rest. You need to be heard. You need someone to sit with you in the darkness without trying to drag you into the light too fast.
What One-on-One Coaching Actually Is
Here is the truth: most meditation apps and online courses fail because they assume everyone starts from the same place. They give you the same breathing technique for anxiety, the same body scan for sleep, the same loving-kindness practice for loneliness.
But your pain is not generic. Why should your healing be?
One-on-one coaching begins with a single, simple conversation. I ask you questions that no algorithm can answer:
-
What does your anxiety actually feel like in your body?
-
When did you last feel genuinely safe, and what changed?
-
What story do you tell yourself at 3:00 AM that keeps you awake?
-
If you stopped performing for approval tomorrow, who would you be?
Based on your answers, I build a meditation practice that fits your exact emotional landscape. Not the meditation you think you should do. The meditation that actually works for your nervous system.
The Three Pillars of This Coaching Service
Every session I offer rests on three foundations. I call them the Three Pillars because they hold everything else up.
Pillar One: Nervous System Regulation
Before you can meditate, you must feel physically safe. Anxiety is not just in your mind – it lives in your muscles, your breath, your digestion, your clenched jaw. I teach you simple, science-backed techniques to tell your nervous system: “The tiger is not here. You can relax now.”
These techniques take less than two minutes. You can do them in a bathroom stall, in your car, or beside your sleeping partner at 3:00 AM. They work even when your mind refuses to be calm.
Pillar Two: Grief Integration
Loss does not disappear. It changes form. My second husband died. I still miss him. That grief will always be part of me. But it no longer drowns me.
In our sessions, I help you create space for your specific losses – the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, the collapse of a dream, the slow erosion of your health. We do not “get over” grief. We learn to carry it differently.
Pillar Three: Self-Compassion Practice
This is the hardest pillar for perfectionists. You have spent your entire life believing that self-criticism keeps you accountable. You think that if you stop punishing yourself, you will become lazy and fail.
That belief is a lie. And it is destroying you.
I teach you how to speak to yourself the way you would speak to a beloved friend who is suffering. At first, it will feel fake. You will roll your eyes. You will call it soft. Then, slowly, you will notice that the voice in your head has stopped screaming. And you will wonder why you waited so long to be kind to yourself.
What a Typical Session Looks Like
You arrive (virtually or in person). We check in for five to ten minutes – how is your body, what has been hard, what has been easier. I listen without fixing.
Then we practice. Twenty to thirty minutes of guided meditation tailored specifically to what you brought in. Sometimes we sit in silence. Sometimes I talk the entire time. Sometimes you cry. Sometimes you fall asleep. All of it is welcome.
Finally, we close with five to ten minutes of reflection. What did you notice? What felt uncomfortable? What surprised you? You leave with one simple thing to practice on your own until we meet again.
No homework. No pressure. Just one small, doable action.
Who Needs This Service Right Now
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from one-on-one coaching. But if any of these descriptions sound like you, please reach out:
-
The exhausted high achiever – You have succeeded at everything except finding peace. Your resume is impressive. Your nervous system is in shambles.
-
The newly bereaved – You lost someone you loved, and everyone expects you to “move on” after three months. You cannot. You should not.
-
The secret sufferer – Your friends think you are fine. Your family thinks you are happy. Only you know the truth: you are barely holding yourself together.
-
The meditation skeptic – You have tried apps, classes, and YouTube videos. None of it worked. You are ready to try something different, but you do not believe it will help. That skepticism is welcome here.
The Investment
One-on-one coaching is not free. I keep my rates reasonable because I remember what it felt like to be broke and desperate for help. But this is also my full-time work, and I cannot offer unlimited free sessions.
Contact me through my website for current pricing and availability. I offer single sessions and discounted packages for ongoing work. I also reserve a small number of sliding-scale spots for people facing genuine financial hardship – because healing should not be only for the wealthy.
How to Begin
Visit gritandgracemeditation.com and click on the “Coaching” tab. Fill out the short contact form. Tell me a little about what you are carrying. I will respond within 48 hours.
We will schedule a free fifteen-minute discovery call. No pressure. No sales pitch. Just a conversation to see if we are a good fit. If we are not, I will point you toward other resources. If we are, we will book your first session.
A Final Truth
I cannot promise to fix your life. I cannot promise to erase your pain. I cannot promise that meditation will solve every problem you have.
What I can promise is this: I will show up. I will listen. I will never shame you for struggling. And I will share every single tool that pulled me back from the edge of despair when I had lost my marriage, my husband, and my home.
You do not need to be perfect to work with me. You just need to be tired of pretending that you are fine.
That is where real healing begins. And that is the quiet power of Grit and Grace.
